Just believe and things are bound to happen!
Being a jobless college student, I am poor. Quality mics usually cost a bit more than what I can afford. So when auditioning for voice-overs, I have to use my scuffed-up, pieces-missing-from-it, family-plan cellphone.
And because the sound on my computer isn’t that high of quality, I never had a good estimate of what exactly my phone-recordings sound like. Anyone I auditioned for usually made no comment or gave good feedback on my acting. But no one ever said a word about the quality of my audio.
Until…one day, I auditioned for (possibly) the only paying gig on VAA.

It was for an animated adaption of a webcomic called “The Meek”.
When just starting out, it’s a good idea to audition for ANY parts you can, so even though it paid cash, I was more just looking to see if I could land any parts I could on the forum.
When I sent my auditions in for this project, though, Yi (the person recieving auditions) sent an email back, asking what kind of set-up I used to record. I came clean and admitted that I was using my cellphone for everything.
To which Yi then offered me a sponsorship for a REAL microphone.
(Well, okay, so Yi also made a comment on how terrible the quality on my audio was, but that’s not important. >.>;;; )
At the moment, us two are settling on buying me a mic <3. Yi wants to go with either the Samson Q1UCW or the Alesis USB Podcast Kit.
It’s twice as pricey, but I do have my heart set on the Alesis. Because 1) it has a lot more reviews, and every single one of them gave the Alesis high ratings and 2) I wasn’t able to find ANY complaints whatsoever about it. The Samson wasn’t too bad, but its ratings were lower. And I want a mic that I’ll be able to do a lot with, with few complications.
I just hope Yi feels the same way….
Whether Yi agrees with my decision or not, I’m just incredibly happy and grateful that I’m getting a mic!

And a cool thing about this is even if I don’t get a role in the project, I get a MIC.
I’m hoping I get a role, still, though…. I’m hoping that if Yi’s willing to invest some money in me, then that means I have a good shot in getting a part. If not, then it’s just encouragement that Yi saw talent in me and wanted to help out. …Or maybe Yi’s just an incredibly giving person <3.
Any one of those scenarios I’m happy with, really.
So there you have it, folks. You can make things happen! Just have the drive and keep working at it, and you’ll end up where you want to be.
