“To go check on them! Since you’re no help….”

OMG I GOT THE ROLE. OMG. OMG. I GOT IT. I GOT RANA. I’M RANA.

(Well, okay, so last time I probably hinted that I wasn’t enthused to be casted as Rana, but I say it’s better than nothing!)

…And now there are probably people wondering why I wasn’t aiming for Rana in the first place. I mean, we’re the same age, so wouldn’t it be easiest if I could be someone I felt more connected to?

About that.

I’m gonna sound like a broken record, but I’ve said before that it’s good to try out for roles you don’t even think you’ll do good in. Rana was such a role for me. I’ve been trying out for a bunch of young girls cuz I know it’d help increase my vocal range. I didn’t actually expect to get the role.

I really had my eyes set on Lethy. Developing a good Southern accent would do nicely for my voice, y’know? But I also wanted to be able to have Kid Luca to fall back on; I’ve been wanting to solidify a boy voice.

You see, Rana wasn’t anywhere on my goals when I was auditioning.

But she’s what I ended up with.

And, it may sound like I just didn’t like Rana, but it’s not like that at all. I just neglected to like her ^^;;;…if that makes sense. I thought about how exciting it’d be if I got to be Lethy, or if I got to play Kid Luca, but maybe Rana didn’t seem like as much fun because we’re both eighteen year old females. (And cuz the ideal voice for her is much higher than my range.)

But yet, there I was this afternoon, recording and re-recording the same three lines and busting my ass to make my voice higher, more bitter, more emotional—ending up with not enough every time and mourning the loss of characterization in each failure.

And, yeah, I know exactly how Rana’s supposed to sound. (Well, I’d like to think so at least, if I was chosen for her because I could bring out her “acerbic edge”.) It’s getting my voice to be that exact shape is the challenging part.

And it’s such a thrill doing this!

I ended up getting the re-do auditions done right before I had to leave to pick up Little Sister from her friend’s house. I have to say that I’m not completely happy with how the re-dos ended up, but I can at least use them for reference for what I’m reaching for.

But first–! As I’m still uber-excited for my mic, let’s do another comparison run! (Dammit. That reminds me; I have a compare/contrast essay due tomorrow. D: )

And here’s one of the mess-ups from today’s recording session:

Sharing a house can be difficult sometimes. ;;;
